Potter director who got away

Even though David Yatesis directing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix he wasn’t the first choice by Warner Bros. Variety via Dark Horizons is reporting
that the original choice for director was Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels producer Matthew Vaughn, a name that was never shuffled around Potter web sites.
But because Vaughn’s pitch was a ‘tad too graphic and violent for the studio’s taste’ they went with Yates.
Vaughn on Potter:
I did slightly scare them by saying the next Potter has got to be more like The Dirty Dozen. But I'm not going to be one of those directors who isn't honest about what he intends to do, and then changes everything when shooting has started and it's too late to fire him. I guess that's the producer in me...
