‘Azkaban’ tops old Potter records

According to news reports and BoxOfficeMojo Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban took in $93.7m in the U.S. this past weekend. This record amount beats both previous Potter movies ($90.2m & $88.3m) and was the third-biggest opening weekend ever behind Spiderman ($114.8m) and Shrek 2 (108m). The movie also had the best opening for the month of June for any movie beating The Hulk ($62.1) from 2003. The U.S. total and $114.1m from international ticket sales gives a grand total of $207.7m worldwide.
Across the pond in the UK Azkaban took in a total of £23.8m ($43.8m) for the film's opening weekend. In the UK the nearest rival to the three Potter films is Lord Of The Rings: The Return of The King, which managed to take in £15 m ($27.6m) over its opening weekend.
