A websiteopens in new window that claims Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will have its world premiere June 6, 2004 in Mexico has some explaining to do.

Our word from Warner Bros. is that the film will have a "same-day release" in the U.S. and UK on June 4, 2004, and the "red carpet" premiere will likely be in London, as it has been for the past two Potter movies, refuting information given at the above link: (UPDATE: The site seems to have removed all references to these rumors.)

The places for the premieres and co-premieres of Harry Potter and the POA have been confirmed. For the first time in history the main premiere (the one the cast attends) won't be in London but in... Mexico! That's right. The premiere will be June 6th 2004. Here are all the details:

Main Premiere: Auditorio Nacional, 9:30 PM (Mexico Centro) June 6th, 2004.
Additional Premiere: London, Welligton's Principal Auditory.
Second Additional Premiere: Los Angeles Californa, PLACE UNCONFIRMED.
Third Additional Premiere: New York, Liberty Place.

Puebla (Mexico): Centro Comercial Angelopolis. 9:30 PM
Buenos Aires (Argentina): PLACE UNCONFIRMED.
Orlando: Six Flags Orlando.
Barcelona, Spain: This has been named a co-premiere but it will June 9th.
Monterrey (Mexico): Parque la Fundidora: 9:30pm.

The main premiere will be in Mexico because as you all know Alfonso Cuarón is Mexican and he decided to make it there. The tickets will be avaliable in all the cities mentioned above since April 1st.

The confirmed visits to Mexico are:
Emma Watson
Rupert Grint
Daniel Radcliffe
Tom Felton
Alfonso Cuarón
And many more unconfirmed.

While Azkaban director Alfonso Cuarón is from Mexico, it is highly unlikely the film will be debuted there. TotallyHarryPotter.orgopens in new window reports that at least one site was even taking credit card orders for the Mexican premiere. Under no circumstances should you provide your credit card for this event.
