Potter author wins award

Author J.K. Rowling has been awarded a top Spanish cultural prize for pushing back the boundaries of literature by stimulating children worldwide to read and fostering international understanding through her hugely popular Harry Potter novels. The Prince of Asturias Foundation, chose 37-year-old Rowling from a 38-strong list of celebrities from 18 countries for its Prince of Asturias Award for Concord of which earns her 50,000 euros.
The cultural foundation's judges said:
"Rowling's work transcends the spheres of literature to become a point of union that links continents and generations, fostering the imagination as a source of freedom at the service of good, and cooperation and solidarity amongst people."
