While this was unofficially reported back in May, the Boston Globeopens in new window today says:

Conductor-composer extraordinaire John Williamsopens in new window has signed on to write the score for the next Harry Potter film, which recently began production and is due out next year. Williams supervised the music for the first two movies, but for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban he's actually writing it. (If all goes well, he'll do the score for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth film based on J.K. Rowling's novels.) Williams is booked for a slew of movies in 2005, including a Steven Spielbergopens in new window remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty slated to star Jim Carrey, and Indiana Jones 4 and Star Wars: Episode III.

Thanks to The Leaky Cauldronopens in new window for the heads-up on today's info.

Editor's note: I'm pretty sure he wrote and produced the first two soundtracks, not just supervised. Does anyone have proof to the contrary?
