Gleaning spirituality from Potter

I reported this a long time ago, but there has been so much mass media coverage over this issue that I thought it only appropriate that I continue the story.&br;&br;"Before Harry Potter was born, there was a wizard who went bad -- 'as bad as you can go. Worse. Worse than worse,' wrote author J.K. Rowling. &br;&br;When Connie Neal read those words, she saw what she calls 'a glimmer of the gospel': Before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, there was an angel named Lucifer who went bad -- worse than worse. &br;&br;The author of more than 30 Christian books and the mother of three, Neal saw so many "glimmers" of the Bible that she was inspired to write 'The Gospel According to Harry Potter: Spirituality in the Stories of the World's Most Famous Seeker' (Wesminster John Knox Press, $12.95). &br;&br;'The book is not for everyone, but it's for people who are concerned -- and it's a valid concern -- that their kids might pick up Harry Potter and inadvertently get into the occult,' Neal said. &br;&br;Rather than ignore the pop-culture phenomenon of the Potter books and movies -- the second Hollywood blockbuster hit theaters last week -- Neal decided to confront the little wizard head-on. &br;&br;'I make my living as a writer, primarily of Christian books, but I did not get into this topic to write a book; I got into it because I'm a mother,' Neal, 44, said from her southern California home. &br;&br;'I heard it was about an 11-year-old boy who goes off to a boarding school and learns witchcraft, and when the mother of one of my children's best friends said it's a wonderful book, as a Christian mom I realized there might be a problem there.'"&br;&br;MyInky.com
