In an new interview with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates, he comments on filming the movie, working with Dan Radcliffe and what the movie is really about.
There's a really interesting principle at the heart of this story. The ministry is this bureaucratic authoritarian regime trying to impose a fundamental doctrine on this liberal wacky school. The ministry isn't very good at accepting the beauty of differences. Everything has to fit in a box, and if it doesn't fit, it must be removed. The wonderful thing this story tells kids is that it's OK to be different.
I'm having the time of my life. It's like being at filmmaking gym. You're working every single muscle as a storyteller. These films are full of comedy, adventure and a bit of thrills. It's terrific.
The Newsweek issue will be on sale next week. Thanks to Andrew for the tip.
