Two announcements made in the last couple of days will make many a Harry Potter fan happy. Yesterday it was announced that Do the Hippogriff has been placed on the long list for "Best Original Song from a Motion Picture" and the movie Goblet of Fire has been short listed by the Academy in their list for Achievement in Visual Effects.

Do the Hippogriff, performed by Jarvis Cocker, Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway during the Yule Ball will be up against 41 other songs and members will nominate three to five songs for Oscar consideration.

Other than Goblet of Fire the short list for Achievement in Visual Effects includes Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, King Kong, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and War of the Worlds. Members of the Academy will chose 3 of the seven for nominations.

Nominations for the 78th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 31, at 5:30 a.m. (PST), in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in LA. The awards show will air on March 5 on the ABC network.
