Scholastic announcedopens in new window today the winners of their essay contest Why I Love Reading Harry Potter!

Ten essays were chosen from more than 8,000 entries, with the 10 winners, from all areas across the United States, ranging in age from nine to seventeen. The winners of the contest will fly from New York City to London and at 12:01 am on July 16th they will be handed a free copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Arthur Levine, editor of the Harry Potter books and a judge of the contest said:

The winning essays capture so honestly what the Harry Potter books are all about -- a love of reading, the inspiration drawn from good literature, and an appreciation of family and friends. All of the talented young fans who entered the contest are to be congratulated for their inspiring and creative essays.
