Earlier this week Greenpeace created a petitionopens in new window for fans of the Harry Potter series to ask Bloomsbury, the UK publisher, to print the next book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, on 100 percent ancient forest friendly paper.

Bloomsbury's publicity manager stated via e-mail:

Bloomsbury, at the beginning of this month, ordered exclusively Forest Stewardship Council accredited paper for the printing of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

In 2003, Raincoast Books, the Canadian publisher of Harry Potter printed Order of the Phoenix on 100 percent recycled paper saving nearly 30,000 trees. If Bloomsbury complies, it will be the first major UK fiction book to be printed on ancient forest friendly paper.
