Following the report that Harry Potter extended editions were expected to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray, we can now confirm that this is indeed the case, with all eight films set to be released as "Ultimate Editions," and Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets set for a release date of December 8.
According to a report
from Video Business:
The new Ultimate Editions of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, priced at $39.92 on DVD and $49.99 on Blu-ray, will each include five hours of special features, theatrical and extended versions of the film, a 48-page photo book and other collectibles.
Among the special features will be screen tests, new featurettes with the cast and filmmakers and the first two one-hour installments of a new comprehensive documentary about the making of the movie franchise. Called Creating the World of Harry Potter, the eight-hour documentary will have one hour on each Ultimate Edition.

According to the weblink the HPSS dvd has 7 additional minutes and the HPCoS dvd has 13 additional minutes - never seen in theaters. Surely they can do better than that!
I wonder if they'll be an Ultimate box-set after both HPDH films are issued on dvd.
I hope they've done more than just added in a few of the scenes in the "deleted scenes" section of the currently available dvds.

I'm going to have to wait until they do come out to see if the investment will be worth it.
When is the last film due out? November of 10? It just might be worth waiting until they are all out on DVD and then purchase a whole set. But then the last two movies might not be presented as 'ultimate' editions.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

I think this will be the first of many editions. My guess is that there will be a big new remake at the end of the series that will provide tons of new material. Would not surprise me if they ultimately re-release the films in expanded lengths for television mini-series.

I won't buy them... 20 minutes of extra footage in the extended versions alltogether... that's just rubbish if you ask me...
They are trying to make an easy buck... and that I dislike... :(

I wouldn't pay those kinds of prices...even if it is HP. I would love to have them all on extended cut DVD or blue ray but they're so terribly expensive...

I find this very intersting. I would love to buy it but I can't help thinking that there will be some ultimate awesome fantastic all including of everything HP set when the films are completed. So would I be spending my money now only to be Jonesing for this uber set in a few years which includes duplicates or even better quality materials? Just pondering before spending...whenever it is released.

If I knew the Ultimate Editions offered the same quality and quantity of extras like those on the Lord of the Rings: Special Extended DVD Editions, I'd pre-order them in a heartbeat. But, as it stands, they don't appear to be very loaded with goodies.
As a side note and slightly off topic, I still wish the HP films would've received the same treatment as the LOTR trilogy. Man, how amazing and satisfying that would've been. Maybe someday. The U.S. seems to love its remakes and reboots and reimaginings so hope might not be lost. *smiles*

I'm torn. Yes I would like to see the extras but I wonder if they are the deleted scenes on the regular versions of the DVD. This just doesn't seem to be as good at the Lord of the Rings extended versions.
