Close friend to J.K. Rowling, Ian Rankin, has reported to BBC Five Live Radio
that Rowling is hard at work on the Harry Potter Encyclopedia.
According to Rankin, last time he saw her, she was busy drawing up family trees. Although he did mention that it was quite some time ago, and he hadn't heard any definitive plans from Rowling.
We will be sure to update you if any more news on the Encyclopedia becomes available, but as of yet no timeline for the release has been set.

Don't start writing the encyclopedia yet! I'm not ready for HP to end. It is nice to know that she's starting it, though. I am dying to read it. I wish she would write another book. About Harry, Ron and Hermione and everyone else after they graduated from hogwarts. It would be one huge amazing fanfic! She never said she'd NEVER write one like that, but she didn't say she will. We still might have a glimmer of hope.
You know what they should have done? They should have re-made the HP books with side notes from the directors from the movie, side notes from the actors, pieces of the script and with pictures from the cast from the movie. All into 1 book, like they did with Twilight. Do you know how big those books would sell? There's just so many ideas that they could do with HP that they just aren't doing. Like having a HP fan conference, again, like they did with Twilight. Where you can buy pictures, stay overnight there for 2 nights, meet the cast, watch the movies together, stuff like that. I would pay to have that experience.

Yeah, John Noe asked her on Pottercast last year and she said that she was going to make one but she wanted to wait a bit before she did because she had been working with dead lines for ages with the HP series.
So now it's the 'Scottish book' :D J.K. ROCKS!

And I read a Twilight comment up there somewhere - it would be really cool if Jo showed some outtakes from HP as Stephanie Meyer did for Twilight.
