At a recent Harry Potter convention, MuggleMayhem, actor Joshua Herdman (Gregory Goyle in the film series) revealed the point at which the split of the two Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movies is expected, as well as changes to the script involving his character.
SPOILER WARNING: Do not continue to read if you do want to know this information!
When asked where the split would take place, Herdman said that the current plan was to end Part I right after Harry, Ron and Hermione are captured by the snatchers, thus beginning Part II with the scene at Malfoy Manor. Director David Yates and producer David Heyman have stated that the split is subject to change at their discretion should they find a more suitable spot.
Furthermore, due to the recent arrest of Jamie Waylett (Vincent Crabbe) the script has been changed to have Goyle die instead of Crabbe, who at this point will not make an appearance in either Deathly Hallows: Part I or II.
Thanks to Jamie and MuggleNet for the news.

I KNEW IT!! I knew that's where they'd split up the movies. I definitely think it's a good decision and would make an awesome cliffhanger.
I'm kind of sad that they had to make Goyle die instead of Crabbe. I liked that he got to have that one line in OOTP: "Watch where you're going Longbottom!"

I was very curious to discover where the director and producer would decide to make the split between the two movies... that's going to be a long wait regardless!

"Like the writers or producers have never 'indulged' themselves before."
Hecate3fold: There are actually people in the world who do not smoke pot. I'm one. My guess is that most of the writers/producers you refer to don't either. If you have information showing that they have smoked pot, I would be most interested to hear it. That would give your apparent claim of hypocrisy much more merit.
That said, this is a rather harsh penalty for this actor to face, especially if he has no prior legal offenses. If he serves his sentence before his scene is needed, he should be allowed in the film. If that isn't possible, they should recast the role and stay closer to the book.

I was discussing this with people and i thought that this was where they were going to split it!!!!
i hope that they keep it here because this is a good place for them to split the movie, its a really big cliff hanger and its where the book turns from being harry potter and the overly long camping trip to harry potter and the deathly hallows.
and wow, no crabbe.. thats sad! but i cant believe that jamie was arrested! but i guess that it was a legitmate reason that he was arrested for. but i liked the line that he said but i guess thats gonna b goyle now....

I hadn't really thought were they were going to split the movie before, but i think that place is a good place to slip it. It is a good cliffhanger for people who haven't read the book.
I am kind of upset that they are leaving Crabbe out of the movie, even thought i can't usually tell them apart. They could have easily used another actor to play him, as he hasn't really had a major part in the other movies.

Ooh, so we're left with a cliffhanger, well, if they keep it at that point, for they will probably change it a couple hundred times.
And the fast that Goyle dies instead isn't that big of a change, and Crabbe and Goyle aren't really major. So thats ok, lets just hope they keep the changes minor!

1. Love the placement of the split, I knew it would be somewhere in the tent.
They should have done this from GOF on...
2. Crabbe, Goyle... doesn't make a difference to me. The point is that someone close to Malfoy dies. These two characters were there for show in the movies really, they didn't have very many lines at all.

I think they chose one of the most perfect places to split Deathly Hallows. It's a good cliffhanger and it will make sure that everyone comes back for part 2 to see what happens.
As for Crabbe and Goyle, I couldn't care less who dies. They play such minor roles in the book that they probably could have gotten rid of them earlier in the movies. Frankly, they can do whatever they want with those two but they should keep the changes involving major characters to a minimum.

Oh sheesh...poor Goyle. He shouldnt have to die because someone else messed up...But I think that is a good way to end part one, leaves people with a cliffhanger, and wot not.

That is an awesome part to split it, the best cliffhanger in the history of film! Knowing me, at the end I'll boo, throw things and start chanting, "I want more!" xDD I can't wait for the end scene with the Feindfyre, I just hope they leave in Ron's line, "IF WE DIE FOR THEM I'LL KILL YOU, HARRY!" Which is my favourite line in almost the whole series.

Oh! That was so sad for Goyle but it's great having part 1 and too. They will spend a lot of time for the filming though. I hope I can have the Deathly Hollow book *sad*

Well, the changes sound necessary but ashame they don't stick more to the original story. It also sounds like the right place to break the movies. Whatever the changes, I'm sure it will be great.

Hmmm,
That is very interesting, we shall have to see if that ends up being where the film is split. It would be a logical choice i suppose.

I can understand that the director, screen writer and Joanne all had to make decisions that reflect the current situation with one of the actors. I know this will not disappoint me, as I have read the final book, and since Jamie will not be in the final two films because of his arrest, the only logical thought is to 'kill' Joshua's character instead.

Recently saw movie 6 and was turned off in minutes. Plus there were subtitles involved.
My way of saying that I do not particularly care where they cut it off, but I would have voted for the logical cutoff point - at Godric's Hallow as Harry and Hermione is attacked by Nagini.
Remember, this is Harry v. Voldemort and that scene reemphasizes that. Then I'd start with the retrospective of James and Lily's death's for part 2.
As a matter of fact: here's how I'd plot both movies.
Movie 1:
Opening Scene: In medias res at the Great Hall, right before they exchange curses.
Jump back to leaving the Drive (no need for the Dursleys).
Everything from The Burrow through the wedding up to the Ministry break-in.
ONE CAMPING SCENE. Can't emphasize this enough.
That overheard convo with the goblins, Ted and Dean and Ron's walkout.
Godric's Hollow and the snake attack.
Movie 2:
The retrospective for opening scene.
Ron's return.
Lovegood.
Gringotts break-in.
Hogsmeade and Aberforth.
Hogwarts and the Battle - Snape's death especially.
The showdown in the forest and King's Cross.
The second part of the battle and Voldemort's death.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FROM THE EPILOGUE.

It's not much of a cliffhanger since everybody should have read the books by now, and for anyone who hasn't, who cares? They're not real fans anyway. And I don't see what all of you are complaining about. At this point they've changed so much who cares whether it's Crabbe or Goyle that dies. I can't tell them apart anyway.
And it's not bigoted to have ethics (I wouldn't call it morals) Hecate3fold. Some of us don't believe in taking drugs and not "everybody does it" as some would like to say.

Brilliant....All news is good news and this will not hurt the minds of the Potter World. This is a movie and you haven't seen it yet for that matter. So, this news will not be a spuff, but, News to chew on to know that the trio were captured in part 1 and hope that they are safe...for the time being until part 2.

I guess they will have us all on the edge of our seats waiting to see what will happen in the second part....oh yeah we all read the book! hahah
personally with crabbe and goyle I always get them mixed up. So for me the wrong one could die and I would have never known the difference.
