The recent MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) film ratings bulletin included the news that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Extended Edition had received a PG rating.
In a follow-up to this news, Warner Brothers has confirmed that all Harry Potter films shall receive a special, extended edition DVD/Blu-Ray release, stating the following:
Although we've not announced [it yet], all Harry Potter films are being planned to get special upcoming releases!
While we have yet to get an exact date, it is fair to assume that the Sorcerer's Stone edition shall be released in the near-future, as it has already been passed by the MPAA. In the meantime, we can only wait for an official announcement on this news. Also note that because there has yet to be an official statement, the content of these releases can be purely speculative.
Thanks much to Brad from Rope of Silicon
for the thorough investigation.

I have been DYING for Extended Editions of the Harry Potter movies, I only hope that they are as awesome as the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions (but that may be too much to hope for) and the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe Extended Edition!

It will be interesting to see what they decided to cut out originally. I hope they eventually release extended editions for all eight movies!

I'm not exactly sure what it is they are talking about. Are they planning on releasing them with additionally deleated scenes? Perhaps with the footage of Peeves that was shot but never included in the first one. Then what will they do, add scenes of Peeves in all of the others ones too?
All I can say is Ca-Ching!!!!!!!!!!
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

So now there's an extended edition, ten year anniversary, ultimate collector's edition, super fan edition and whatnot. I'll just wait for the 8 movie extended edition pack.

Oooh! This is definately good news. I've been hoping they'll do this, ever since they missed out that really big seen in the fourth film. So I'm glad they've decided it's time.
It'll probably end up as a box set, with all eight movies. Becuase they've previously done that with the first four.
(: (: (:

Well all the DVD's so far released have deleted scenes in so maybe they'll put those back in.
Also, they could probably add in some digital effects to create new scenes, although this is unlikely to include anything of much interest such as the trio in new (from the book) scenes.

I sure hope the extended versions will be more true to the books than the films have been previously... otherwise I'd consider them to be a waste of space (the extended ones, that is)... :P

As much as I would love to see extra scenes (that are not included on the original DVD's), I will probably wait until all eight extended versions are out to think about buying them or not. There are so many scenes that they filmed that are not included in the films, but what I would really like to know is how many of them are actually from the book.

Glad they're finally doing this. But why not just release the movies on DVD with the option to include deleted scenes?
Oh wait.... I forgot for a minute there. More $$$ in sales if they do it this way... [grin]

I wonder if the extended version will just be like when they show the movies on ABC Family. Because if it's just that, I will not buy it.

Well that is exciting!
I agree with longbottom48 though. I would hope there were more added scenes than just the ones that are already on the current dvds as deleted scenes. Because those really aren't much at all. Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Not a surprise. There is probably a lot of material available that could be added to more fully follow the books. A lot of cutting was made to fit the time limits imposed by theaters. It is also a good way to generate new sales.

The extended version should be the one in theatres, not just on the DVD! There's so much I would have loved to see in the film that was missing, though I'm sure it would have been really nice-the new Minister, more memories...I hope some of these will end up in the extended edition.
