Upon opening Wednesday, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince raked in $58.18 million in the U.S. ($22.2 million at midnight) and another $45.85 million internationally, for a one-day grand total of $104 million (and a new record).
Some quotes from the bigwigs:
Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros., stated, "Quite simply, we owe this record-breaking opening to the remarkable fans who have stood by us and who stood in line to be among the first to see 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.' We thank them again for their patience and we hope they agree with us that the film was well worth the wait."
Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, added, "Everyone at Warner Bros. joins me in congratulating the cast and filmmakers who have made another worthy addition to the amazing Harry Potter film franchise and are already hard at work on the next film."
Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Pictures, remarked, "From our earliest screenings, the response to 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' has been overwhelming, and we have been inspired by the enthusiasm generated by the film. As the movies have gotten bigger and better, it has been a wonderful challenge to create bigger and better marketing campaigns to excite Harry Potter fans and create new ones. We are delighted that this latest film seems to have done both on a global level."
Producer David Heyman said, "We are so grateful to Jo Rowling, whose books are the foundation of our success. We share this with our remarkable team—director, writer, cast and crew—with whom I am privileged to work every day and whose ambition for the films never ceases to amaze me. Thanks also to our friends at Warner Bros. and especially to our countless Harry Potter fans around the world for their support."

I went to the midnight viewing on July 14, 2009 and I have to say that I did not like the movie at all. I would have to say that the rest of the theatre agreed with me as well as the comments that were being said upon leaving the theatre were not so great. I am going to watch it again to see if it will grow on me but really it was in my opinion the worst of all the movies to date. A total let down.

I didn't watch the movie yet *crys* but I'll be watching it whenever I have time in the theatres. Meantime, the box office money is pretty impressive! Warner Brothers should use a big portion of the money to make the Deathly Hallows movie the best movies ever in history.

Though I was rather dissapointed with the essential things that were left out (ie. the abrupt and minimal conversations regarding Tom Riddle & horcruxes) I was extremely happy with the character development this time around. Previous hp films have often ignored the lives of every other charater besides Harry Potter, and it was nice that they finally decided to give some film time to other characters. Not only did it allow us to see the talent that so many of the actors possess, it made for a more enjoyable viewing experience because we weren't suffocated with just Harry's woes. Seeing the blooming romance, the comedy, the friendships, made the film more 'real' and for that reason, perhaps the most enjoyable of all the ones produced. Overall I was extremely happy with the film's quality, and I know I will buy another ticket very soon!

I liked the movie but there could have been more details. At this point in the series, they have a built in fanbase. WB should love their fans and give us a decently detailed movie.
I still am not happy with Yates.

I was a little worried that no one would mention how horribly organized this movie was. Yes, it was good in an entertaining way but I was really disappointed as far as the actual story goes. They left way too much stuff out. Again. First off, the movie pretty much starts in a an underground subway? There's nothing of the first memory of Tom's Parents and little bits of the others. They don't explain the ring. It just shows up. Luna does not find Harry in the train...what is that all about? Dumbledores black hand is like no big deal. There's nothing about Snapes defense against the dark arts class. Maybe not that that was a huge scene. So blah blah hey let's just throw some random crap in there like having bellatrix bonfire the weasleys house. Yeah um no. And the ending was the worst. Hey look there's some death eaters that just show up and yay whatever let's go have a little fight in Dumbledores office. And finally, there was no funeral! Whose the director? David Yates? Yeah. I don't like him.

I really wanted to go at midnight when it was first released. I was disappointed that I had to study for my eco. exam and had work the next day as well. But, I was definitely happy I went on Thursday. The movie had made me rekindle my love for the HP series. And, since the last movie, I'm sure more fans have jumped onto the train to read these books. So, of course more anticipated and watched the sixth one.

Ok yeah it was funny, i was entertained while watching it, but it was not what i had anticipated! The commercials made it seem so much more action packed than it really was. I do not think that i liked it and to be quite honest im disappointed with the majority of people on here who call themselves hard core harry potter fans that are professing their love for the movie! This movie was NOTHING like the book which i understand isn't always a reality for a book being made into a movie and i know the previous ones weren't exactly like the books but they can't just throw random things that have no signifigance, rhyme, or reason for like the burrow?? And they didn't say anything about fluer and bill so what are they gonna do in DH when they are at a wedding at the burrow that allegedly "burnt down" and no one even knows about their romance. UH im just so upset with this whole movie and i was looking forward to some fan ranting about it but those comments are few and far between. I just cant believe you people liked it!!!! Overall, it was entertaining but i actually felt like at the begining when Dumbly was getting harry they were just making fun of it and not taking it seriously... i did like when they were all drunk though. We saw the characters in a different light and it was funny, but overall not good enough to make me like it. However i will still buy it and watch it because i mean come on, it harry!
