To end their coverage of the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie, the LA Times has a new interview with Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) where he discusses
his character, the franchise, music and more.
This is the major film in Draco’s story. There‘s some coming of age for him here. What were your thoughts going into it?
TF: Very excited, but I also got a little bit anxious, and slightly worried, about what to do and whether or not I could do it. I had many meetings with David Yates and Mike [Gambon] to discuss it, and they really encouraged me to really try and excel with the character. It’s what any actor wants when it comes to trying to sink your teeth into a character, and we really do reveal more of Draco’s emotions. He’s always been slightly two-dimensional in previous years, and this time you really see lots of sides of him.
How so?
TF: You see a much harder and much more violent side, his hate is much stronger. But there’s also an immensely vulnerable side to him too. Hopefully you empathize with him by the end, a little bit.
What do you remember about shooting that climactic scene on the Astronomy Tower?
TF: It was intense! When we shot it I was surrounded by the cream of British actors [Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter were present, as was the Dublin-born Gambon], and the scene itself is very intense. There’s lots of shouting, screaming and tears. We had good fun with that one. It was the scene I was most looking forward to.

Tom Felton did great on Malfoy's character for HBP. Out of the younger cast, his performance and Daniel's shined the most throughout the film.

I hope he does get to do that surfing picture. It will be a big change, and get him away from being the 'evil' Draco.
Actually I've listened to some of his songs and I think he does a good job there too. He has a lot of potential in whatever avenue he chooses to persue.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

He was really brilliant in the film. It was unbelievable. I just wanted to give him a hug so much when he was crying in the film on a couple of occasion. I felt so sorry for him. But still good none the less.

I agree that this was his best performance to date. You could see and feel his pain and he provided the right amount of angst. Tom was excellent in his more 3-dimensional portrayal of Draco.

I haven't seen the film yet (going to on Saturday), but everywhere I've looked I've seen nothing but positive reviews and praise for Tom Felton's performance. So inevitably, I'm going in with incredibly lofty expectations, but I have a feeling that he's going to deliver splendidly.

I was so excited to see Draco come into his own in this film!
I always thought he was the best child actor when the movies started (since he did have other films before Sorcerer's stone) and I am so glad to see other interviews besides Daniel and Emma.

Very great interview I really love Tom Felton. I will look forward for his new filming of "In between Waves" because it sounds interesting I'm thinking maybe Robert Pattinson can be your partner in the film hehe.. Anyway, I was surprise with his singing talent but like what Tom answered about singing career we have the same thought I can see him mostly in acting. Wish you luck Tom for the new film and work hard for your surfboarding I wanna see it soon!
