With the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince just 14 days away the web is awash with new interviews. In this one with Daniel Radcliffe discusses
the lack of darkness in the sixth movie and that he is thrilled that the last movie has been spilt into two movies, brimming with darkness and with working with Michael Gambon.
There's loads of darkness and not many laughs there, so David said it was best to give the audience as much comedy as we can while we can. There are huge opportunities for comedy in the sixth film and we use all of them, even though my natural inclination is not towards that. I love watching comedy but doing it is something else.
I'm very happy that the seventh book is being made as two films because I was worried they would have to cut important scenes. For example in the fourth film you could cut out the house elf sub-plot and it doesn't affect the main story in any way. In the second film they cut out the Nearly Headless Nick Death Day Party. In fact that whole character has fallen by the wayside. The problem with doing that with the final book is that there is nothing that doesn't relate to the main story or drive it forward. There's not much you could cut. So we've given ourselves the room and opportunity to do it justice.

I mentioned this on the live "podcast" a while back: There needed to be a great contrast between the 6th movie (High comedy mixed with dark themes), and the 7th movies (high tension and darkness. I can't wait, along with everyone else who is fan of this series, that these next three movies will not be a disappointment. Also, great work Dan, Emma, Rupert, and every other cast/crew of Harry Potter!!!!!

I totally agree with everything Daniel said. Cool interview though. I like the idea that Deathly Hallows being split into 2 films also. That way all the important stuff wouldn't be cut out. Yay! =]

Actually I am still pretty upset by the fact that they cut the whole SPEW thing therefore making Dobby much less significant :( I hate that. Dobby should've been in the majority of the films and they didn't do that.

im really really happy that they are going to do two movies...yes, it will be another long wait but it is sooo worth it to be able to have the book adapted on sceen without major plot points being cut out. That is probly the best decision that teh writers and directors have made up to this point. YAY for 2 part DH!

He has become much more articulate over the years hasn't he? I hope that the sixth movie isn't too much fluff and not enough substance. I've read the reviews and they seem stellar, so I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Only time will tell, although Dan certainly knows things that we don't. He's read the script for the last two movies and we haven't.
Is he saying that they are finally going to do something right? I hope so.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

And it's so true, Nick has fallen by the way side - what's up with that?

What bullcorn. A few weeks ago there was an interview with him or Rupert saying HBP was "the darkest film yet." Now we're being told that it's not very dark?
I'm a bit wary.

Well then I'll let my hopes get a little higher for the Deathly Hallows films. I want to see the true essence of that book come through on the screen. It's time for the writers and director to get serious and get those films right.

Do agree that it probably a good idea to use the comedy while they still can. I was a bit worried that HBP wouldn't be dark enough. But it is nice to get laughs, and so long as DH makes up for it I don't mind.

I love Dan and I agree with him in that it was a wise decision to split Deathly Hallows into two films. I think it's wonderful that Dan knows what he wants in life, which is to act, and I think we will see a lot of him even after Harry Potter is over.

I agree. I was happy from the moment it was announced. I would have loved it if all (well at least the long ones) books were made into two movies - so that all the little moments would've been preserved. And there is no question of it being boring - for us it never gets boring. I would love to see it some day serialized as well - (if it is made with quality actors under quality directing).

I totally agree with Dan. Splitting up the last movie into two was a wise decision because almost all that goes on in book seven is relative and important to the plot. i really hope they do not cut out Snape's patronus...

I'm glad they are splitting it too. You don't want to miss anything from the end of the series. It would be almost impossible to figure out what to cut. An argument could be made for keeping each and every thing that happens in Deathly Hallows.
