Last year we told youopens in new window of a court battle in which Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling lost the privacy rights case involving her son. Ms. Rowling appealed that this decision and today wonopens in new window the appeal.

Ms. Rowling and her husband, Dr. Neil Murray, released the following statement after the ruling:

We understand and accept that with the success of Harry Potter there will be a measure of legitimate media and public interest in Jo's professional activities and appearances.

However, we have striven to give our children a normal family life outside the media spotlight.

We are immensely grateful to the court for giving our children protection from covert, unauthorised photography; this ruling will make an immediate and material difference to their lives.

The case revolved around the publication of long-lens photographs taken of her son when he was 18 months old in 2004

It's fantastic that she's won the appeal - does that mean it can be used as a precident in future? It could help so many stars protect their kids from the press.

I'm glad she won the appeal. I never understood why people think they have the right to take photo's of children, just because they have a famous parent. Well done JK.

Brilliant...Even though it took three years to get to prove that you have the right to privacy not having you childs picture taken. But, the battle is really not won yet. JK still has to deal with a settlement or go back to court.

For those that maybe confused this court case has nothing to do with Lexions case.

I'm so happy she won. I mean, it's bad enough she has people taking her photo while she's trying to have a private walk in the park(just usuing that as an example), but to take photos of her 18 month old kis, put the picture in a newspaper and comment on everything they did that day, etc... that's just wrong. It's a horrible invasion of privacy! I don't know why she didn't win in the first place. I hope things don't go like this with the HP Lexicon, JK Rowling court case...I really don't wanna see that guy's book published. If it's full of errors, why buy it?

I think that's great. Leave the children alone, I would think that would be frightening to a child to be stalked by adults with cameras. Children need to have some normalcy in growing up kids of stars.

I'm glad that they won this appeal. I mean, it's OK for her to be in the spotlight, but leave her kids out of it!!

It's illegal here in Australia for strangers to take covert photos of children, so why should it be any different for JK Rowling?

Well good. It would be ridiculous if she didn't win, mainly because children deserve privacy, especially at that age.

Good for them. It's unacceptable for there to be such intrusive photos. Honestly, she wrote a successful series of books... why would that give people the right or reason to take pictures of her children?

I am relieved to hear that the courts have ruled in her favor. I have been immensely concerned about this case, as no child - NO CHILD - deserves to be exposed to the heartless media at such a young age. They need not be shown that in addition to the many other pressures of growing up. Leave the poor children alone.

I'm so happy to hear that she won this case, I don't believe that children should be involved in such media at a young age. They should have just left J.K.'s son alone to live a normal life...well as normal as he can, i mean his mom is one of the most famous people in the world!
