In a short
interview with Imelda Staunton (Prof. Umbridge) and Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie, Imelda discusses taking the role and Jason mentions the British actors who are in the movies and others who are just vying for a role. Also in the piece David Heyman briefly touches on the recent decision of Emma to continue with the movies.
Ms. Staunton discusses her role all in pink and how a friend suggested that she would be perfect for the role:
"I read the book, and Umbridge is described as short, ugly, toadlike woman," Staunton says. "I thought, 'Oh, thanks'." Staunton plays her as an apple-cheeked scholmarm - drenched in pink angora - who is restricting freedoms (and free thought) to "protect" the students. "There can't be any mess or any individuality," Staunton says. "But, of course, that leads to brainwashed people."
Jason Isaacs says of the movies:
Every great British actor is either in the movies or desperate to get into them. It's a real badge of honor. You either know somebody, or you know somebody who slept with them.
David Heyman briefly mentions Emma and her decision to continue with the movies:
She's a very considered young lady trying to figure out what the next three years of her life are going to be. Clearly, we wanted her back, but it was important that she make this decision for herself without any undue pressure.
UPDATE: We now have the photo, courtesy of Warner Bros., that accompanied the article featuring
Harry and Prof. Umbridge.

Well, she doesn't look quite like the Umbridge I pictured in my mind...but I think that she sounds like she will do an excellent job all the same.
You either know somebody, or you know somebody who slept with them.
Mr. Issacs does have a point here....

Alright, I think that she will look the part, this is pretty much the way I think Umbridge should look, well...maybe a little uglier than the actress, but its ok. Jason, where do I begin....I love this actor, he is so great...absolutely hilarious! He never fails to amuse me, even when telling the truth.

It was great to hear that the trio had all signed up for the remainder of the movies. I can't imagine finishing the series off with all new cast. It just wouldn't be right...
I think that the role of Umbridge is going to be very interesting indeed. She looks great for the part. I guess we will have to just wait and see. I would also imagine with all the hype of the movies any great actor would want to be involved just for the bragging rights essentially and the exposure it would give someone’s career. A definite push into main stream if they are note already there.

Hmmm... I think she seems.... almost too kind looking to be Umbrdige. Kinda looks like a kind mom that wouldnt do more than spank her kid for being out of line. I pictured Umbridge to be way shorter and very very very fatter. Imelda isnt fat at all!

Well i think Staunton is perfect for Umbridge and i agree with Issacs, everyone wants to be in the movies and most of the amazing actors are in it!!! And i am glad Emma Watson decided to stay for the last 2 movies it would not have been the same without her! ;D

Well I think Stauton looks like a perfect Proffesor Umbridge. She is exactly what I pictured. I think it is funny how you can picture someone to look in your mind and then they really turn out that way. I am so excited to see this movie, I hope Proffesor Umbridge is as horrible in the movies as she is in the books. That will make a really great movie.

At least we know Emma wasn't forced to make the decision.
What's that about sleeping with people? He's saying that that the actors sleep with people who want to be in the movies? Why would he say that in an interview??

Yes, i like that she took her time and made the decision. Imagine if they'd pressured her to make a quick decision, and she'd agreed, and then later on was unhappy about it? Or worse, had refused and then later regretted it?
She demonstrated so much maturity in making this decision... that's really admirable, especially for someone her age

I always pictured Umbridge really fat and ugly, so for me she looks a little too pretty and nice, but I bet she plays Umbridge really well. And I'm ecstatic that they'll all be back for the next movie!! It wouldn't be the same without all of them.

I personally think that Staunton is perfect casting for Umbridge, I am not saying she is ugly just that she seems to really present the ugly person that Umbridge is in the book. That is a sign of what a great actor she must be to make us believe that she is indeed this really awful person.

*chuckle* Nothing like good friends who are honest enough to tell you that you'd be great at playing an ugly, mean, toad-like character.
And Jason, he cracks me up. But I'm glad to see him say that acting in HP movies is a badge of honor. A lot of them may feel that way, but they wouldn't admit it. Certainly not Gambon!

I think she'll be able to pull it off. I mean, she's really pretty and not what I PICTURED Unmbrige like, but they can't look like what everyone pictured them as. She's an amazing actress...
And Jason Isaacs is probably right, the HP movies are like a badge of honour.
