Earlier this morning the cover art for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was revealed on the 'Today Show.' Both Bloomsbury and Scholastic web sites have been updated with the art.
You can see the British covers here
and a large image of the adult version here
.
The cover illustration for thechildren's edition is by Jason Cockcroft, who drew the cover illustrations for the previous two Harry Potter books: Harry Potter and the Order of the PHoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The cover design for the adult edition is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith, who has photographed all the adult edition jackets.
The inside flap of the British children's edition reads:
Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety, and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him!
In this final, seventh installment of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling unveils in spectactular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.
The back of the adult edition reads:
Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with?
Scholastic has an interactive version of the cover here
.
According to Scholastic’s
Vice President and Creative Director, David Saylor (who has designed all the covers):
The front cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows features a dramatic sky of oranges and golds. It depicts 17-year-old Harry with arm outstretched, reaching upward. The structures around Harry show evident destruction and in the shadows behind him, we see outlines of other people.
For the first time the cover is a wrap-around. On the back cover spidery hands are outstretched towards Harry. Only when the book is opened does one see a powerful image of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, his glowing red eyes peering out from his hood.
You can view the reveal of the cover here
(Quicktime) or download here
(Windows Media, remember to right click & save target as ...). You can now also watch the video on the MSNBC web site
, thanks Hannah.
Canadian publishers, Raincoast Books, have updated
their web site with the artwork as well as options for pre-ordering the book.
You can see all the covers here
in our gallery.
UPDATE: CBBCNewsround reports
that the British version of Deathly Hallows will be 608 pages long, the second longest after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

OH can't edit...
I believe on the US cover it is Hogwarts... somewhere on the grounds... If you look at the SS cover, the arches are on there too... It does appear to be a stadium of some sort... And that does appear to be a locket around his neck...
On the UK kids edition, it appears the trio is hurt... Dobby is going to protect Harry... To me when I see the "treasure" I keep thinking about the wedding... don't know why... maybe it has to do with wedding gifts etc.
We did know he was going to Privet Dr. first and then to the Burrow for the wedding...

I noticed the smaller hand holding the sword and thought of Dobby immediately tasty pork. At least I hope it's Dobby and not the deranged Kreacher!

The covers are wonderful!! In the American version, I wonder what Harry is reaching for and what is the building behind him and what is the necklace around his neck? In the British version, the trio looks like they're being sucked into something. Wherever they are, it looks like there is some kind of treasure with coins and jewels. And is that the Gryffindor sword being held by Dobby perhaps? Also it looks like another Basilisk on the back cover. I can't wait to read this book!!!

I just sent a VERY caps-locky and exclamation pointy email to my Dad.

HarriPotter says:
This is AWESOME! I like that the American cover is so different than the previous ones, really emphasizes that its Harry going at it alone (personally I wanted him to be less alone (Ron and Hermione CANNOT DIE!!!)). Harry's also wearing Slytherin's locket, which reminds me of how DD wore the ring around. It either takes place at some kind of pitch (field) or possibly the ministry (though then I can't explain the orange), Personally I think it looks like the coliseum, a gladiator fight or something...haha.
The British cover, seems hardly serious, and I thought was a bit of a disappointment. I'm guessing that's Dobby with the sword, which I guess proves his loyalty, or stick-to- itiveness for Harry his idol. I like that the trio are on the cover though.

It is interesting to see that the bloomsberry cover has them in a room with tons of treasure. I wonder what that is all about. I think I like the adult cover the best and then the bloomsberry one. the US. one doesn't show much.

I watched that this morning! Eeee! Exciting moment, when they pulled the fabric off of it!
I really like it, but I think maybe it's a bit too orange. I think it would've looked better if the sky was a little darker, maybe more red. Dunno. It's still really cool! I can't wait for the book!

Wow, I really wasn't expecting the cover art, but I guess we are not that far away from the book! The end of the series has been so distant for such a long time, it seems a bit unreal that it will soon be here. Very interested to understand what this cover means!

Looks to me as though both Harry and Voldy are reaching for something. I wonder what it could be. I wish I had watched it this morning as it was being unveiled but I can't stand that darn Today show and all their propaganda!
Anyway, I am so excited about the book. So there are several who have already read the book and know what is to come, I can't stand the anticipation it just might be the end of me!

Just got the children's edition cover to come up and it shows all three so undoubtedly whatever happens they WILL be together. Interestingly, it shows Ron holding Gryffindor's sword.
Also, could that be Slytherin's armor? That most definitely looks like armor and it has the serpent on the front. Wonder if that is a horcrux as well? Also, what is with the jewels? Do they represent the treasure (obviously the horcrux's) they will be searching for? Oh so many questions, so few answers and oh so very long to wait.
They also show Harry's stag, I wonder how big a part the patronus will play.
