Earlier this morning the cover art for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was revealed on the 'Today Show.' Both Bloomsbury and Scholastic web sites have been updated with the art.
You can see the British covers here
and a large image of the adult version here
.
The cover illustration for thechildren's edition is by Jason Cockcroft, who drew the cover illustrations for the previous two Harry Potter books: Harry Potter and the Order of the PHoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The cover design for the adult edition is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith, who has photographed all the adult edition jackets.
The inside flap of the British children's edition reads:
Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety, and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him!
In this final, seventh installment of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling unveils in spectactular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.
The back of the adult edition reads:
Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with?
Scholastic has an interactive version of the cover here
.
According to Scholastic’s
Vice President and Creative Director, David Saylor (who has designed all the covers):
The front cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows features a dramatic sky of oranges and golds. It depicts 17-year-old Harry with arm outstretched, reaching upward. The structures around Harry show evident destruction and in the shadows behind him, we see outlines of other people.
For the first time the cover is a wrap-around. On the back cover spidery hands are outstretched towards Harry. Only when the book is opened does one see a powerful image of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, his glowing red eyes peering out from his hood.
You can view the reveal of the cover here
(Quicktime) or download here
(Windows Media, remember to right click & save target as ...). You can now also watch the video on the MSNBC web site
, thanks Hannah.
Canadian publishers, Raincoast Books, have updated
their web site with the artwork as well as options for pre-ordering the book.
You can see all the covers here
in our gallery.
UPDATE: CBBCNewsround reports
that the British version of Deathly Hallows will be 608 pages long, the second longest after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

I am freaking out right now! I am so excited and unbelievably nervous for the book to come out! I just wonder where Harry and Voldemort are in the U.S version, they look like they are outside. In the U.K version I am thinking they are at Gringotts and Hermione and Harry are injured and Ron looks petrified with it looks like one of the house elves behind Harry. I am thinking it is Dobby.

Oh my gosh! Here they are! I just can't believe that the series is going to end soon. Honestly, I'm going to try to read only one page per day so that it'll last me for at least 2 years, hehe...
As for the covers, the US version is a little bit disappointing. The UK version is a bit better, I have to say. Their facial expressions are exaggerated, though. Well, at least the US one doesn't give away anything.
Can't wait for the release day!

WOW! I can't believe it! It's all so close now!
I really love this cover! I can't believe how much older Harry looks. I went back to look at covers from the earlier books, and it is so cool to see the artist's interpretation of how Harry has grown and matured over the series.
I love the color too! So many people were expecting a bold red cover, but I love the orange and gold. I looks like a new dawn.

Awesome cover artwork. But 608 pages!? I am so disappointed after the reported 784. I hope the American version squeaks out a bit longer.

Oh my god! This is crazy, I cant believe that the ARTWORK IS ALREADY FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!! This is great... but frightening. It is scary, isn't it, the fact that years ago, after SS/PS, we were all fooled into thinking, this is going to be a very long series, you know, seven whole books! Not in the slightest, actually. It is terribly short, Oh, J.K., Why couldn't you write on forever? If she were here, she would say because I don't have enough plot for over 784 pages, dear!

I watched this morning on Today when it was revealed! Very well done, in my opinion. I like the colors and the fact that it's a wraparound... Matt Lauer was funny -- he didn't know that was supposed to be Voldie!

I'm very excited to see the cover art and am thoroughly impressed with the various details everyone is picking up! I think Voldemort and Harry may be reaching for the same thing on the US cover. I agree that the UK cover looks like its at Gringotts and that Dobby is behind Harry.
I want the book to get here...but, then again...

Harry's wearing the locket I think! Are those Death Eaters in the background as well? Is that Nagini in the orb? Great to have them released - very telling and makes for good discussion finally.

I was so happy to find the cover was released!!! I think the Scholastic cover is gorgeous; I think I just happen to like the color scheme. Plus the picture of Harry and Voldemort seems poignant . . .although I would love a little more detail on the situation. (Of course though we'll never get it). Oh well!!

THE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finally the thing i have been waiting for and i only find out now because i have been gone all day!!! I am so excited...i must admit i thought it would be a dark color like black, but orange works too. It looks like Harry is wearing Slytherins locket in the US cover. I wonder what it all means and i cant wait to find out. And we finally see VOLDERMORT on the cover like JK Rowling imagined he would be on a book instead of in the movies!!
