Everyone seems to be jumping on the Potter bandwagon. British TV station, the BBC, is set to launch a reality series
called The Sorcerer's Apprentice, set in a Harry Potter-style boarding school.
Children participating in the show will learn card tricks, Latin spells and illusions and each week will perform for "magic mentors" who will judge their performances and decide who must leave.
The show will air later this year and thanks to Victoria for letting us know that the show was mentioned on the CBBC web site a month ago. The application process is now closed to the public, but was open to 9-13 year olds in the UK.

Eh, I hate commercialism. I think this is too much, and people need to stop when they're ahead. I won't be watching it. Too often, over-commercializing anything makes it less precious. Quality is more important than quantity, in my opinion, and recently all the commercializing that is directly or indirectly related to HP has been in bad taste or has been a waste of money(excluding the movies, naturally, and in my own opinion, of course.)

Hmmm good idea but I think JK would be insulted at them calling Hogwarts a place to learn 'magic tricks'! He he

Is there no limit to painfulness? Which parent in there right mind will let their kid participate in a reality show? And who wants to see kids doing card tricks?

I hate reality tv shows, and I don't think this one will change my mind. What I want to see is a cartoon of hogwarts airing, that'd be cool cause you can create magic in a cartoon. Card tricks aren't real magic, and unless these kids can make things zoom across the room with a flick of their want, this show will be a bust.

I couldn't watch it even if I wanted to. I don't get any BBC channels. But the idea doesn't sound all that appealing anyway, so I doubt it'll be much of a loss. Card tricks? Eh. Kind of sounds like they're mocking HP.

I don't think it'll be that good. It sounds ok-ish but i won't be watching it. I think the "Latin Spells" is going a bit too far.

Give...me...a...break. What are they thinking? Reality shows for young kids to be kicked off the show when they're not good enough? Ridiculous.

That's kind of funny. I don't want to be prejudiced, but I don't expect it to be anywhere as good as HP. But, I shouldn't compare it, after all, it may be "inspired" by HP but not affiliated with it...
Sometimes I think child actors/actresses are lucky. Other times I don't. I hope they have a great time filming this!

No frickin way. I totally would've signed up. I'm totally over 13, but who cares...I could masquerade. That's frickin awesome.
Is BBC going to show the episodes free on the iternet? Cause that'd be awesome.

I feel like his is kind of taking things too far... as a Catholic I don't like it, but aside from that I also think it's just a bit too commercialist. It's obiously a money-grab based on the hopes that they can snag some of the Harry Potter-mania for themselves over at the BBC.
