on JK's site has now been opened, but of course there are things you need to do to get to the prize.

UPDATE: Bloomsbury, the UK publisher of the books have confirmed on their web site that the title of book 7 is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with no publication date announced.

I think "Hallows" is referring to "Halloween" also known as "All Hallows Eve", a night meant to honor the dead! Perhaps the conclusion of the series will end on the same night it began, the night of Lily and James murder which conincidently occurred on Halloween.

Hallows, even without the "deathly" part, certainly sounds grim. Most people tend to be focusing on the noun form, which is probably correct, but there is hallow as a verb=to greatly revere, venerate, consecrate.
Kind of a stretch, but the wording of this title reminds me of Half-Blood Prince. Everyone was assuming it would be a true royal figure, but not many suspected "Prince" as a last name.
So there could be many interpretions...I guess we'll have to wait and see...
