Abebooks.com, a large online seller of rare books, reports
that they surveyed 608 Harry Potter fans and found 20% expect to learn of the ending to book 7 from leaks in advance of its publication:
Editor's Note: No doubt we'll all have to practice constant vigilence to shield ourselves from leaks this last time around. Anybody who thinks there simply won't be any leaks has been woodwinked by the Confundus Charm, unfortunately. Even with the tightest security in publishing history, details will undoubtedly find their way to light before official publication.
HPANA is already making detailed plans to shield visitors from spoilers, based on our experience last year.

I'm glad that HPANA is already trying to help provent the leaks. It's wicked horrid, the fact that people want to spoil the book before we've all had the chance to read it. What is the point, really? It annoys me horribly. I no doubtedly will hear a lot of the book from sources on the net, but I'll attempt to ignore it.

I hate when I read spoilers before hand. Especially for a HP book, when you have been waiting so long for it to be realeased, it only spoils it when you hear the ending and stuff.
PLEASE DON'T POST ANY SPOILERS ON HPANA, PEOPLE!!! :P

That would be really sad. Of course most leaks will be false and people can ignore them. Really need to watch out just a few days before and after.

I so don't want to know what happens in the seventh book until I read it myself. Hpana, you guys did a great job last year in giving everyone a chance to read the book for themselves, before being allowed to find out information on here! I'm so excited for the 7th book!!! :)

I don't mind small leaks in the plot, but anything major, like the ending, and who dies will really bother me.
I don't want to know what happens, so I will probably avoid forums and stuff to keep from finding out. It just ruins the entire reading experience.

I don't care about movie spoilers at all (after all we've all read the books already!) but when it comes to spoilers on the books, especially the 7th book I have a firm stance. No book seven spoilers please!!! The only form I will condone are the enigmatic tid-bits Jo releases herself. Good luck HPANA!

Hey! Constant vigilance!! That's absolutely right. I don't want the very last story in the series spoiled because of leaks. Publicity may ruin everything.
Especially for those who can't read it in English and hav eto wait several months for their translations in their mother tongue. Though I read the books in English, the plot of the fifth was almost ruined for my mother who doesn't speak Englih, because a magazine in my country (Hungary) revealed the death of Sirius Black. I had to read every Harry Potter - related article before my mother so that I could protect her enjoyment of the story from leaks.
I hope if we have constant vigilance, as well as many others, the fun will not be spoiled. :D
Hugs,
Hermione5

I think that it is very important for HPANA to inform readers of the leaks beforehand. These leaks could possibly ruin the whole book. As anxiolusly as I am waiting for the seventh book, I'd like to hear it in the words of J.K. Rowling and not a publisher spokesperson.

I'm afraid of leaks too! I had heard about DD's death, but really, really hoped it wasn't true. It kind of ruined the moment (not that I wanted him to die) - as in I felt all along that the cave scene *had* to be building to the inevitable end of our Beloved Headmaster.
I'm sure leaks will exist, unfortunately, it will ruin the enjoyment for millions of fans.

Only 608? Not to keep griping about validity of these reports and stories, but I've learned in my Psychology class that for an accurate survey, there's got to be a wide variety of people taking it...and that includes the fact that they should be polling non-Harry fanatics.
Besides, people will only find out the ending if they want to. If you don't, then don't go looking for it on the Internet!
