During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan's
latest movie Lady in the Water
, the direct was asked
if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.
Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:
You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.
I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.
Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

WHOA! Could you even imagine the HP movies then? The would be so different! I couldn't even picture it! Shyamalan as director would be so different! I cannot say in good or bad way, but it would certainly change things. He certainly has imaginative ideas!
GO HP!

I'm actually quite excited to go see his new movie and I think that it would be really cool if he had something to do with one of the Harry Potter ones.

I think he would be great for HBP or the 7th book because they are both very dark and so are his films.

Woah. If Shyamalan directed the first one, I'd imagine it would've been really scary. But if he directed one of the last ones, he be good for it because they begin to get darker. But for now, I'd stick with other people directing the HP films.

Ah no!!
Please don't let him. The Village is a terrible movie.
His style would certainly conflict with Jo's and has he even read the books?!

OHMYGOD!! Now I'm wondering how different Harry Potter would've been if he had accepted it.
Sidenote, he's a brilliant director/writer. :)

Oh, this is weird. I just finished watching Signs 15 mins ago.=P
Anyways, I'd love to see Shaymalan direct HBP. I think the storyline is great for the type of movies he makes. I'm thinking that he wouldn't've been the right director for the first 4 movies. I don't think the first 4 books had a dark enough storyline for his direction. I think he would've made them darker than they needed to be (*cough* PoA *cough*, hehe).

I would have to say an HP movie my M Night would be interesting to see. The village was alright, and so was signs, but I wouldn't say he would do any better or worse than Columbus, or the current director.

Ok, that was just a bizarre comment to make. How is HP a tricky movie. It can't be that bad, I mean they've changed directors twice already.

I don't think Shyamalan being the director would have been the best choice for the Harry Potter movie. Don't get me wrong, I like a select few of his movies, but I personally can't picture him as the director. It definitely would of been a different experience to watch the film if he did make it, but as to whether it would of been positive or negative experience I can't say.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if this guy could not only direct Harry Potter 5,6,or 7! His talent alone is qute unique. His directing skills would certainly bring out the way JK Rowling writes her suspenseful chapters in the Half Blood Prince. With the dark parts of the book, shaylaman could really bring out the best bits of the story line.

Gosh, I can only imagine how much darker and sinister those films might have been. It's true that there are still two more (hopefully) to go and I've no doubt of his ability, gosh they are pretty frightnenly, realistic, already though...

That's so crazy! I cannot even imagine how different the movies would have turned out if Shyamalan would have directed the first one. They would have been so much darker.

The first movie would be so different if he directed it at first!! I think he might do good for the last two films because they fit he "scary movie" theme... They aren't that scary but are much darker than the first one.

I love M. Night Shyamalan's movies! I'm not sure about Lady in the Water, but we'll see. I'm glad he didn't direct a HP movie, though - handing over "the adoption papers" might not be such a great idea ; )

I have absolutely no idea what all of that meants. I suppose he's a director producer sorta guy? I think he'd enjoy doing the movies if he got into reading the books. It's a shame, they all judge a book by it's place in media. Such fools.

If Shyamalan directs the last movie, instead of watching Harry battle Lord Voldemort, we'll be watching Harry battle a green alien that drops out of a spaceship!!!!!!
No offense, but having Shyamalan direct the last Harry Potter movie would be a big mistake. Sure, he would make it darker and scarier, but it just wouldn't be Harry Potter. It would be turned into some Sci-Fi movie. I love his movies, but he isn't for Harry Potter.
