took a swipe at Harry Potter fan sites today, lamenting the results of a poll which places Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint just behind Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal in their "Best Supporting Actor" category:
It seems that Harry Potter fan sites are sending quite a few of their visitors to vote in our annual "Best of" and "Worst of" polls, placing noted thespian Rupert Grint in 2nd place for Best Supporting Actor, with Jake Gyllenhaal just ahead of him (hey, we like Ron W. too, but come on!). Ah well, that's what you get when you invite thousands and thousands of people to vote in your Best and Worst Polls, sometimes the best really are the best and sometimes, well...

:o oh come on now! whats wrong with that?! I think that Rupert is a brilliant actor and he deserved 2nd place! Bless him, not to mention that Rupert does so much good. I mean he was on Dick and Dom a few weeks ago and he got doused in creamy muck muck to raise money on the last red nose day. I personally think that Rupert deserves that place! WOOT GO RUPERT!

I can't believe that they are getting all high and mighty over the fans, if the fans did not think he deserved it then they would not have voted, fans arent mindless tools, they DO have worthwhile and educated opinions! Just because the voters werent dominated by "experts" or scholars doesn't mean it wasnt a valid vote... there are even MORE fans of Dan and he wasnt voted for best actor, because fans are smart enough to see that he SUCKS.... he got better in GoF, but still... that crying scene in PoA was just...eugh...

Well, both sides have a point. Yes Rupert is/ will become a good actor, but he is in a completely different class than the actors grouped with Jake. So, I guess the moderator or whatever or the poll had to say something so people "out of the loop" would understand :)

They need to get over it and remember why the built the site in the first place. Instead of lamenting the standings, maybe IMDB could take the time to see their part in it. If they don't take the younger actors seriously, then they shouldn't include them in the poll!
I'll admit that Gyllenhaal is a good actor, but so is Grint.

Well if they didn't want people to vote for their favorite they shouldn't have a "poll". Of course fans from all the different sites are going to find out and go vote, we all want to see HP win anything it can. I think that Rupert does deserve the honor (even if it is just second right now). I think that next time all of us fans should go vote again and make him number 1 just to show them the power of the HP fandom!!

Rupert deserves it since lots of people clearly voted for him! and just because the person who wrote that disagrees it doesn't mean they have to be rude about it, get over it, Rupert is second( and should be!) (or even first) A poll takes peoples opinion, so if they only wnat a certain person to win it, why make it in the first place?

What imdb did is clearly elitist and highly prejudiced. The management of that site do not deserve to be there because they clearly need a lesson on UNbiased RESPECT FOR PUBLIC OPINION. They give their sector of the industry a bad name for showing an inclination towards irresponsible journalism, and in my eyes, they have lost credibility.

If that's how fans voted then what's wrong with Rupert being second? I haven't seen his other work but he seems to be just as talented as if not more than some of the other actors out there. I say good him and if HP fans are the only reason he's at the top then good for us for exercising our right to vote.
