Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire director Mike Newell recently conducted an interview with UK's Telegraph, which he reveals his approach on making the movie into a thriller, talks about the three leading actors and admits his fears and tribulations on directing such a huge film.
Here's an excerpt from the article
with regard to Mr. Newell's experience on working with author JK Rowling:
Everyone assumes she's some kind of dragon, but she insists the books are the books, and the films are the films. As long as the films don't contradict the spirit of the books, she has no problems. We had to take a couple of liberties with this story, but she was fine with it.
You can read the entire the interview here
. Thanks to Jay for the tip!

Thats cool that he gets along with JK...but I really do wish that the films were closer to the films. Oh well, I suppose that it is best to recognize them as separate entities.

That's cool. I do wish some things were left in... ie S.P.E.W., Winky, but I understand that you couldn't possibly include everything in the movie and keep it under 12 hours long. Though that would be kinda cool, but so unpracticle. Just as long as the main points get through and they don't 'change' anything, it's alllll goooood.
Peace.

I am happy he got along with J.K. Rowling, or else there would be trouble! I agree with Quidditch_Chaser_USA about leaving out the S.P.E.W. part, I was looking forward to Winky but there is more important parts! Anyways, I can't wait until Goblet of Fire is released, Only 16 more day! Yee Haw!

I always enjoy hearing about the interactions between the movie and the books. It helps identify little known points that come back to be really important.

Wow so many interviews...o_o I'm kinda getting tired of all the hype...remids me of that A-Team quote "it's always darkest just before it goes completely black" Just lets forget all the hype and go to the movie!

Rowling is too easy with the movies. They should be as much like the books as possible! Dumbledore is not a raving lunatic who doesn't know about anything! He's calm and collected with a quick wit and years of experience. That's something important the movies mess up!

Even though the movie looks awesome i wish they were more like the books. Some of the characters are not exactly the same and they left out some cool scenes. Ah well.

Don't understand that one with her being a dragon. Oh well. She right though when she says that it wouldn't be a good idea for the books to coincide with the movies.
