I went and saw the movie about a week ago, but it just hit me...
Did anyone realise that in the movie, Draco was "branded" with the Dark Mark whereas in the book he wasnt? i just thought this was strange because the movie seemed to make a point of showing it. maybe i am wrong though. please feel free to comment. ~love from~ Alicia |

If it wasn't shown to a movie audience it would have been just speculation on Harry's part without any solid evidence to back it up. As far as the audience is concerned Harry is just jumping to conclusions, with the Dark Mark it confirms Harry's suspicions without it being revealed outright to Harry. It's a commonly used technique in films to confirm something to the audience, making an audience omniscient, while leaving the main characters in the dark, so as to build tension between the two sides. In the book we trust Harry far more easily, as we see the world through his eyes.

king's cross station
i didnt even think about that....*smacks head* duh. i feel really dumb now, yeesh. i guess thats probably the answer, but it still feels weird to me, seeing as Draco didn't want to do the task, as he said so himself, he was just doing it to not be killed, i guess its just me but i thought from what he said to DD that it was clear that his motives were pretty self- centered. ok, i take that back. i guess im seeing it as a member of the book audience, and not the "movie only"" audience. im really very tired right now so if this sounds like im rambling, i probably am. :) it just was kinda weird to me and it took me so long to realise it, i wondered if anyone else had picked up on it and thought it was strange. guess i shouldnt be surprised though seeing how much they changed from the plotline anyways. *sighs* i will stop rambling now. :) ~love from~ Alicia |

Draco did have the Dark Mark in the book. At the Battle the Order tried to get through the barrier blocking the Tower where Dumbledore was, but you could not enter the Tower if you didn't have a Dark Mark, hence why Greyback stayed down to fight. Malfoy did have the mark. |

Is it really sure that he got it, judging by the books? Did they ever specifically state that he got it? Did Rowling say anything about it at all?
Well the movies have always been kinda strange. And its annoying imo that they drift so far apart from the books. But what can you do. Updated Jul 24, 2009 at 1:08 PM by KissingDraco |

He did have it in Canon, Harry never saw it but he did have it.
I actually like some changes, some are annoying but some are quite nice. :} |

I'm pretty sure Draco was branded in the book. I'm going to have to get my book back from my friend and confirm that. But I'm pretty sure he was.

You know what? Now that you mentioned it...he did pull away from Madam Malkin. Wow. I still haven't gotten my book back but I will have to look over it.

I'm pretty sure he did have it - when he was first given his 'task' I got the impression he wanted to do it, you know, get a bit of glory, show off a bit, have people in awe of him (whether 'good' awe or 'bad' awe). And yeah, he did pull his arm away from Madam Malkin when he was buying robes, so I'm pretty sure he did have it. Like Kings Cross Station. says, they just made it obvious in the film because otherwise, yeah, people who weren't necessarily big fans of Harry and didn't necessarily know the books that well didn't just think Harry was talking rubbish because he dislikes Draco.
I suppose also it really brings home the effect and power that Voldemort is gaining as he starts his takeover of the wizarding world - although we, as fans, know how much he can do and what lengths he'll go to for it, those who aren't probably won't, and showing the Dark Mark on a student demonstrates this seemingly all-encompassing power he has. |

I need to get my book back because it's driving me crazy but I'm pretty sure Draco had the Dark Mark in the book too but I could be wrong.

In AVPM he had a homeade one. ^_^ "And if this homemade dark mark doesn't convince you! I don't know what will!"
![]() Now, since we're talking Canon. Draco DID have a Dark Mark, as did Lucius (obviously) it was only Narcissa who didn't, she agreed with what they were doing but wasn't an actual Death Eater. :) I like Narcissa. |

Well, I rented a copy from the library and Draco was branded, just never showed it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have pulled away from Madam Malkin.
