Huh, weird that they old one got deleted. Why was that, do you know?
Anyway, I've finished 1984, if I didn't say that before. Loved it. I've started Stardust now, actually, and I am really liking it actually. |

Im still reading Catcher in the Rye and Norhtanger Abbey, which is another one of my Austen favorites. I'm also reading The music was never the same: The Beatles, which is an amazing book about the Beatles. And I'm still reading Bringing Down the House and Deathly Hallows. |

Wait, the old one got deleted? Explain.
Edit: Never mind. Saw your explanation and was surprised I wasn't on the stalk list. Was I that much of a stranger? Currently re-reading Deathly Hallows as well. Updated Feb 6, 2008 at 8:40 PM by humes |

the thread got deleted because the person that created it got her profile deleted (Im not really sure though) Yes, that's exactly what happened. Yesterday I went and checked in All Questions Answered Here, and they said that the person who started the thread (Elle, I believe) had requested that her profile be deleted. I was going to start a new one but it slipped my mind.
Currently reading Moby-Dick. Ishmael and Queequeg are finally on board the Pequod. Ahab has yet to show up. |

That's unfortunate, we had so many good discussions going on there. But hey, we can redecorate :P. I wonder why Elle wanted her profile deleted. Meh, probably none of our business anyway.
Well, I'm still reading "Midnight's Children." Finally on chapter 2 (yay). Um...started "The Awakening" even though we've already finished our lectures on it. I really really don't want to finish "Life of Pi" because our discussion on cannibalism in the book in seminar got rather graphic and really not looking forward to reading those parts. Is there anyone here from Limerick, Ireland or has been there, or even better: goes to the University of Limerick? My friend and I are thinking of doing an exchange there and it looks amazing, but I was wondering what it was really like? |

Thank you for this thread..I absolutely LOVE reading, and am a huge bookworm.
Right now I'm reading The Subtle Knife, which is the sequel to The Goldem Compass, and it's really good so far. I also loved Inkheart and Inkspell, and Inkdeath will be coming out later this year =) Also, I'm part of the White Pine Reading Club at school, and I just finished reading the nominee Grist, and it's amazing ! I hope these are good suggestions, and I hope to get some from you guys as well :) |

Hi people! I finished reading Farenheit 451, a strange book but shows something that the world might fell into if we don't slow down a little our lifestyle. Sense and Sensibility is very good so far, although Pride and Prejudice was better (for me). I read 1984 for my english class, it was quite good. And i got the LOTR and The Hobbit in English (because i read then like a hundred times but in spanish).

I was reading Englsih translations of poems by Catullus last night. It was really funny because they are absolutely vulgar and crude, and poetry from ancient Rome is supposed to be really elegant and beautiful not "I'm gonna tie your feet together and run you through your backdoor with mullets and radishes".

MPotter: OK, a Twilight question. Uhm...I didn't abhor the book, I just didn't like it. I found the plotline kind of cliched, Bella's character was just boring, and I didn't see what was supposed to be so great about Edward. Plus, I read and loved Dracula last year, so the whole vampires-as-romanticized-dark-faerie-thingies-who-are-actually-good-and-not-undead-and-creepy thing was a big turn-off for me when reading this book. I also didn't like that the vampires sparkled in the sun. Sorry, it just bothered me. I suppose the only thing I didn't mind was Meyer's writing style.

I going to re-read the last 2 Potter books during my half term break. Also, I'm studying Wuthering Heights at college so I'll probably re-read that as well.

MPotter: I really like that one. But this is for Latin, Catullus is like the only poet from ancient Rome who isn't known for his flowery, romantic poetry.
I'm reading magazines that my mom sent me right now. It's the weekend, so I can just chill and not worry about homework tonight (yay) and I don't have a lot anyway, just Latin. Hooray for pre-reading week lack of homework! |

MPotter: I agree with you about the books with Price Charmings that rescue the Princesses. I love that kind of "happy" romantic books, that's is why I liked Twilight, but I believe that Bella is very boring, and she is very selfish, and I can't stand Jacob!
frannie: I also read Wuthering Heights a few months ago, how do you like it? I loved the plot and how it had a "happy" and a sad ending at the same time. Almost done with Northanger Abbey, which is a wonderful book. And I'm halfway done with the Beatles' biography, and I have to say that the Beatles are pure geniuses! |

I finished "Stardust" today. I absolutely loved it. I'm working on finishing "Jurassic Park" this weekend. And then...well, then I keep reading. It's a cycle for me, really: read a book, finish it, start another.
Although I did realize that other day that I haven't read a single book all school year just because I wanted to. The exception being "Stardust", but I'm thinking of using that for one of the English classes, so I'm still counting that for school. |

Oh my gosh!! Sorry I'm late :P
Well I have two new books to add to my "have read" list. The first was "The Truth About Emma" by Gary Crew... an Australian author, I'm pretty sure. I couldn't be bothered typing up what it's about ... so I will copy and paste something I stole from another site. At a first glimpse of the beautiful young woman on the cover of The truth about Emma, the reader would expect this book to be a teenage romance, but that is not Gary Crew's style. He delivers an involved, disturbing and memorable story that has quite a punch about the power of the press and the complexity of human relations. Emma Burden has been the target of international media, with headlines about an affair with a university professor while she was still at school and accusations of murder. Journalist Rafaelo Innocenti, hoping to get his big break, interviews her to see if he can find out the truth. So yeah, that's what it's about. It really held my interest to the very end [even though it was slightly rushed towards the end]. Has anyone read it? You should! The book I've just begun reading is called "Cents and Sensibility" by Maggie Alderson. A Jane Austen pun heh... ;) So far, so good. It's chick-lit though, so nothing to get your brain really ticking. MPotter: I haven't talked to you in AGES! I currently have no internet at the new place I'm staying [yet] so I've been reduced to an Internet Cafe. I can smell coffee. Thanks for the stalks by the way! I'm happy I didn't get forgotten *beams* |

MPotter: I know exactly how you feel! I was "addicted" to the book when I was reading it I could not put it down. But now since I've been re-reading Harry Potter I don't find it that awesome anymore, to me it's just another pretty good fiction book and nothing more.

Yepp, the book/movie is The Golden Compass.
I'm going to buy the DVD when it comes out, because right now I'm reading The Subtle Knife, and I want to finish the trilogy before I see any movies. It's amazing though! |

Hi, can I join this thread? I love reading, so I love books, obviously. I literally just finsihed reading Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern, which I really enjoyed. So I'm looking for a new book to read, preferable Romance/Chick Lit, so any recommendations please? Thanks!

Hey everyone! New thread, eh? How are you all, I haven't been here in a while. Just started back at school so I've been pretty busy and the little free time I do have I've been trying to fit in some reading. *sigh* I've almost finished Little Women, should be finished today/tomorrow and I really love it. I think I'll probably read Catcher in the Rye next.
By the way, has anyone read Lord of the Flies? Did you like it? We have to do an assignment for school comparing 2 books and one of them has to be chosen from a list of 4 they give us. Two of them sound terrible and the other two are Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird. I've read To Kill a Mockingbird (which I loved), so I thought rather than re-reading it, I'd make good use of the opportunity to read without feeling guilty because I should be doing schoolwork and read Lord of the Flies. |
