Before going any further, please read the rules to make your participation on HPANA the best that it can be. Please post in this thread and THIS THREAD ONLY if you have any questions that have not been answered below.
Please read the following to find answers to any questions you may have: For help with avatars check out: 'Avatars for the Handicapped' in the Sonorus Forum The Point System Explained by Harry James Potter: There are a multitude of web sites that post news and rumors about the Harry Potter world. The Harry Potter Automatic News Aggregator (HPANA) was created to monitor several of the top news sources on the Web and provide near-instant alerts when new information is published. (Source http://www.hpana.com/about/) The points you receive are a representation of your participation on the site. Do not worry about gaining points; it will seem to go faster when you do not put too much effort into getting points and more effort into reading and posting. Gaining points You can gain points by making posts. You will receive 1 point for every 2 or more lined post. For posting under one of the news topics on the Front Page you will receive 2 points for your first post. Every other post you make under the same news topic, will grant you 1 point. Another way to gain points, one that isn’t used a lot, is by contributing to the site. You can search for News on the web or maybe you have your own way on contributing to the site. Just write an email to a moderator containing your member name, and what you want to do. Losing Points Losing points has not yet been automated; however points can still be taken away manually by the moderators. You can loose point because of several reasons; 1. Making inappropriate and/or offensive posts. 2. Making inappropriate and/or offensive threads. 3. Spamming anywhere else than in the Sonorus forum. 4. Registering multiple times. 5. Duplicating threads. 6. Duplicate Posts. 7. Multiple posts - which contain no actual information. If the chief-moderator deems it suitable your account can be deactivated and all your posts deleted. As you make posts you will be able to reach different levels, these levels are shown under your member name. The different levels are; 000 - 99 = Muggle 100 -199 = Squib 200 - 299 = Student 300 - 399 = Prefect 400 - 499 = Head Boy/Girl 500 - 999 = Wizard/Witch 1000 - 1199 = Professor 1200 - 1399 = Order of Merlin 4th Class 1400 - 1599 = Order of Merlin 3rd class 1600 - 1799 = Order of Merlin 2nd Class 1800 - 1999 = Order of Merlin 1st Class 2000 - 2400 = Auror 2400 - >>> = Custom Title (only given once & unable to change) Once you have gained 2,400 points you can request a custom title. Custom titles are just titles from the Harry Potter books. Many titles are already in use. Some titles are only reserved for moderators like Minister of Magic and Minister of Disinformation. Filters and Rules It is impossible for the moderators to enforce all the rules all time. This is why there are some filters that help to impose the rules. Some of these filters are the: 60-sec Rule (this filter prohibits you from making more than one (1) post every minute. This way repeated messages are blocked. And it also makes it a lot harder for spammers to make repeated posts on the site ). Next is the chat speak filter (this filter prohibits you from using chat speak like p.p.l (people) c.u.z (because and those kind of anagrams). You see even I can't post chat speak. Another one is the length prohibitor (a post should always contain punctuation, and has to have a 25 character minimum ). There are more filters but they’re fundamentally all the same. Follow the suggestions made and you can probably post it or suggest your post to be manually checked, this can take from 1 hour to 2 days. The House Cup The House Cup has puzzled a lot of people. Even though a house can have more points than another this does not mean that, that house is elevated. The House Cup ranks are based on the average number of points per member. To calculate the average for your self you can use this equation; Total points / Number of Active members = average. Now look what you've done. You've crashed the Internet. Don’t worry, you haven’t crashed the internet. This message means that the webmaster may be improving or fixing something on the site or if there's a horrific error that the moderator doesn’t know about (which has happened in the past). Most of the time you can wait a few minutes and get the page you wanted just fine. Office of the High Inquisitor This is the newest addition to the main forums page. Here you will find the messages from the moderators (High Inquisitors). Here you will find the forum rules, and everything related to maintaining the dignity of the forums. Thanks to Harry James Potter for this wonderful information. To make sure that you don't have to log into HPANA everytime you want to post a comment please make sure that you have checked off the box under your profile that says Remember me on this computer & then save your profile. To be notified if your profile name is used in a post go to the common room then to update your profile & then check off the box that says ‘New! E-mail me whenever my member name is mentioned in a post’ then all you have to do is save your profile. |

I just wondered how many hours a day you spend on this site - all of you work so hard answering everyone's questions plus way more, you must spend a lot of time on here. I would just like to say thank you. Probably not the correct place to post this, sorry about that.
And also is there any way to access past post's in this (or any) thread since it was started over? -Jenn Updated Dec 19, 2006 at 12:45 AM by JoRowling |

Well, each mod is probably different, but I personally spend a couple hours (if not more) on the site per day. We all do have "real" lives as well, so luckily there's always someone around to help out.
And the mods can still see the deleted threads for a while, but members can no longer see any old posts that have been deleted. |

I personally spend a few hours a day most of the time. If I don't have the time, I basically pop in check out a few of the forums that I participate in, and the forum that I'm in charge of, and then get started on something else that I am working on.

Princess_Drama -- Actually he was given 4 warnings in the past 3 months about his actions & yet he continued, sorry but he won't be allowed back on the site. Also note that we will not be discussing another member with you in the forums again, if he has any requests he can email us directly but he won't be allowed to return.

So i have what i feel like is a really stupid question....but on the main forum page next to the Ministry of Magic under the last post all day today i keep seeing Mod's FAQ and Guidelines thread but when i click on it it just takes me to the Ministry of Magic home page...this has happened several times today...but then i was thinking it might just be a moderators only thread so then i think there might be some sort of glich or something. I dont know its kind of a stupid thing but i just thought you should know!

Emma's Double go to the first thread you posted a request in and edit your post to say nevermind. That way the shopkeeper doesn't waste time making an avie you have requested elsewhere. In the future I would give them atleast a week before saying nevermind and posting in another shop.[/b]

musicianSorry but it had to be deleted as a duplicate of these two threads. "Which Weasley will die"; and "Who will die in book 7?". You are welcome to post in one of them. Just be sure to post a spoiler warning, Followed by a lot of space, before your post.

DoubleONothing - Although I wasnt the one who deleted it, I suspect your thread was deleted as its indeed a duplicate of the thread: Title of Book 7? (SPOILERS!) as this thread is now not only about previous guesses, but also about the newly revealed title.

Dobby Is My Master Witch ![]() Joined: Nov 21, 2004 House: Gryffindor Points: 725 |
My thread has just been deleted. I didn't receive an email notifying me. It was entitled Horcruxes and Ancient British Magic: The Connection (spoilers). I am just curious as to why it was deleted because I checked, and I found no other topics about how the Horcruxes could be related to Arthur's Grail Hallows. I did not believe that this belonged in a "Title of Book Seven" topic because while it touched on this, it was not the main focus of the theory. So I am just curious why it was deleted and would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me.
I also realize that with the new title release that the email might be down and that you are very busy. So, I completely understand if you cannot get back to me right away, but I would like to know...eventually. Cheers. |

Dobby Is My Master -- I didn't delete your topic but from reading it your topic was a discussion about the title for the last book, currently there are topics discussing the title & what it may or may not mean & that is where your comments should be posted.
Hp Fan 9374 -- That was done for you. musician -- Sorry I can't help you but if you go to the Sonorus forum there are many shops who create similar avatars & you can certainly ask them. harrysgurl201 -- The webmaster (webmaster@hpana.com) is in charge of Top Sites but from what I know a reciprocal link url is a link to your site in the required space, also a button url would be a button advertising your site with the link. I'm sure the size has to be correct also for that to work. If none of that helps you should email the webmaster directly. |

This may sound like a weird question, but are you allowed to change your username and still keep your house points? I'm not planning on doing so, MsKrum suits me just fine, but I've seen some members with Harry Potter- related names of information that was released after they joined.
Just an exmaple : Someone's Name was "I AM THE HBP", but they signed upfor HPANA in 2003 Are they somehow related to Trelawny and can tell the future? Or was this just a lucky guess? Or am I seeing things and/or not sure of the dates which certain things were released? Thanks : ) EDIT : Thanks Geri :) Updated Dec 21, 2006 at 9:13 PM by MsKrum |

MsKrum -- There are no weird questions if they are site related. You can certainly change your member name anytime you want by just going to your profile & doing so. You won't lose points for doing so.

I was wondering how exactly you became moderators. I know it probably has something to do with a very large amount of points, but other than that I have no clue.
Thanks! |
